Help on Count

Hi
I have the following list. I want to count the first 4 chars(UK10,IN17,US11)
from that list and want to count last 1 char(1,2,3,4).
I want to do this using formula only.

Please help me with this.

UK1053 IN1734 IN1734 UK1041 UK1042 US1141

Easy, count of first 4 chars is ... 4.

Now perhaps you can explain yourself better, what you have said is not at all clear.
