Displaying text with freeze panes

I have this odd problem, not sure if a solution exists.
In my sheet, I have merged rows that are left justified so that I can have long text strings in those rows.

Problem is, if I freeze panes (at the second column or so), then when I scroll the rest of the sheet horizontally, the strings also scroll along and don't appear fully.

Is there a way to make those text strings appear all the time, irrespective of the scrolling? Thanks.
