Can't we use Subqueries inside Crosstab Queries?

If we can use in some cases, Can someone explain where and where not?

I assume that you can, but SQL is not my strong point, so I tend to create the Sub Queries as Stand Alone Queries and use those as the record source for the Crosstab.
Microsoft says
"Some subqueries are allowed in crosstab queries (crosstab query: A query that calculates a sum, average, count, or other type of total on records, and then groups the result by two types of information: one down the left side of the datasheet and the other across the top.) — specifically, as predicates (those in the WHERE clause). Subqueries as output (those in the SELECT list) are not allowed in crosstab queries."
