    Strange Date Formatting!

    Hi,

I have never really come across this before, just wondered if someone had any experience...

I have a report come through from client and then I run a macro to sort it into ascending date order by column H.

The dates in column H appear as 22/09/2010, but the macro does not sort them into date order because it is not recognising them in data format, it is just sorting by the first two numbers.

Even when I highlight the column and format the cells to date format - they do not change, they only change when i click in the cell context in the address bar (by the little fx symbol) and then enter and it goes to date format which can then be sorted.

Is there anyway that I can force the column to change to proper date format. I also tried Shift and F9.

Does anyone know how I can get around this?

    Cheers,

    BB

Is this the date format you use generally or has only this file come with the date set like this?

Another option to try would be the Text to Column option. Go to Data > Text To Column > Click Next x2 > Column Data format > Date > DMY > Finish.

    See if this works.

Excellent - that worked a treat!

    Thank you so much.
