Dates and Days

I hope and pray that this mail finds you well.

Please may I ask your assistance in the following.

I have a spreadsheet that contains the following data:

1. start date
2. end date
3. status

The start date refers to the date a request was created. The end date refers to the date the request was closed. The status refers to well basically the status of the request (1 = closed, 2 = inactive, 3 = open, 4 = rejected, 5 = cancelled).

I would like to do the follow:

1. Calculate the days from the start to end dates.
2. Plot the day on a graph (basically we would like to work out how long it really takes to handle a request from start to end).
3. It should also reflect the current open requests and reflect how long it has been opened.
4. Further I would like to calculate the total number items against each status.

Now I have to admit that I am not very good at Excel but would really like to try and get this information if possible in an excel graph.

I am very open to any suggestions/recommendations you may have on how to depict this information.
