Solved: New to VBA - How do I open WORD?

I'm attempting to open a .doc file from VBA within Excel. I understand that Activex is not available but how do I get round it?

This is what I've got that doesn't work.

appwd.Documents.Open txtpath & lettername

I would appreciate any help.
