Yes they can, and is an EXCELLENT place to put them.
You can copy existing ones from normal.dot to another template using the Organizer. You can also do it by code.
AutoText, yes, but how about AutoCorrect? I thought that AutoCorrect was a member of application or object.

AFAIK you can't transfer them to other templates but you can export them and import them on the new target machine.
