In what case isn't it helpful to set UserInterfaceOnly to true? I have been thinking about this, but could't come up with a plausible example. So why is the default value of this option False anyway?

Presumably someone thought it better to default to protection protecting you against code.
Be as you wish to seem
Harmfull code you mean?
Depending on your definition of harmful. It's not unreasonable to have as a default that if I protect a sheet against changes, I want it protected against all changes. It's all theoretical though unless whoever wrote the code happens to post here.

I guess so.
