In the customer John need to find the first sale in the first fortnight and the last sale in the second fortnight (if there are two sales on the same date would be the largest)

"Fortnight" is to vague a term to work with. Just sort data by Client/Date
MVP (Excel 2008-2010)
Post a workbook with sample data and layout if you want a quicker solution.
