Text stretched in inserted word object

I already asked this question on SuperUser, but since there seems to be little response there, I figured I may as well ask here as well.

I have a spreadsheet in which I've inserted a few word-objects, in order to make editing text easier in some boxes.
However when I enter text into these objects, it becomes stretched:

When entering info into the object, it looks fine:

Sometimes when manually fiddling with the size of the object, the text turns into how I'd like it to look:

Have any of you guys got any idea of what's going on here? I'm eventually going to distribute this spreadsheet to others, and while "fiddle a bit with it" is an ok instruction for me, I would prefer not having to give it to my users.
